The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant started in August 1983 in Melbourne. Some of the trams from the fleet of historical trams have been converted into Restaurants. It is claimed that these are amongst the first travelling tramcar's that have a restaurant. This is another way of exploring Melbourne's scenic sights while enjoying some of the finest cuisines and Australian wines on board.

The Tramcar Restaurant is identified easily as they are of Burgundy colour, unlike the other trams. They depart from Tram stop # 125 which is located on Normanby road (Corner of Clarendon street) in South Melbourne. This is close to Crown Casino and the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. The maximum number of people that it caters for at a time is 38 with plenty of room to move and even a toilet on board.
