This is a new development in the inner west side of the Melbourne CBD region. Over here, it’s all about waterfront dining, shopping at Harbour town (one great an unusual feature is the “Glow in the Dark Mini Golf”, Wonderland Park (ice skating, dodgem cars, a giant slide, and many more carnival rides!) and Entertainment (AFL & A League soccer played at Etihad Stadium). Docklands is designated into the following precincts –

  1. Northern precinct – which consists of NewQuay, Waterfront City, Harbour Town, Melbourne Central City Studios.
  2. Stadium precinct – Digital harbour is in between NewQuay & the Stadium precinct which includes the Etihad stadium & surrounding areas.
  3. Central precinct – Is made up of Victoria Harbour & Central Pier.
  4. Southern precinct – Home to Yarra’s Edge which goes along the Yarra river
  5. Batman Hill – Is between Docklands & the CBD
One of the best tourist attractions here is the Southern Star Observation Wheel. Tourists & visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Melbourne & Victoria harbour from the wheel which has about 21 carriages and can carry up to 20 people at a time. Generally allow yourself at least 30 minutes for the wheel to come back to the starting point. There are great shopping areas and also the Etihad stadium (formerly called the Telstra dome) with its retractable roof, hosts Australian Rules Football (AFL), Cricket, Soccer and other Entertainment Shows & Music Concerts etc.
