As Melbourne is on the Eastern side of Australia, the Time in Melbourne Australia is Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). In Australia there are three time zones which are as follows:-

1. Eastern States

Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) is equal to Coordinated Universal Time plus 10 hours (UTC + 10). AEST is followed in the States of Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, Australian Capital Territory & New South Wales (except Broken Hill).

2. Central States

Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) is equal to Coordinated Universal Time plus 9 ½ hours (UTC + 9½). ACST is followed in the States of South Australia & Northern Territory with the exception of Broken Hill which is in New South Wales.

3. Western States

Australian Western Standard Time (AWST) is equal to Coordinated Universal Time plus 8 hours (UTC + 8). AWST is only followed in Western Australia.

Daylight savings is observed in the Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. Queensland & Northern Territory do not observe daylight savings. The Western Australians choose not have daylight savings.
